Overview

The Four Dimensional Leadership Model is based on years of research in leadership role and behavior. The model reflects the relative shift in leadership competencies and personal characteristics required at different levels of management. The on line 4D360© was developed to assess leadership role and behavior as defined by the Four Dimensional Leadership Model. A brief review of this model is important in order to make the most of feedback received on the 4D360©.

The Four Dimensional Leadership Model describes the shift in leadership competencies and role at different levels of management.

You are invited to download a FREE copy of the Four Dimensional Leadership manuscript from our website.

The model depicts the shift in leadership skills and attributes at different levels of management. The Line Manager must demonstrate high levels of detailed knowledge and technical skill. The Middle Manager role requires greater grasp of Directional Leadership and greater skill in Interpersonal Leadership. At higher levels of management, successful leadership requires the ability to deal with greater complexity of information and social interaction.

The 4D360© was developed to provide feedback based on those broad dimensions of leadership. It is also specifically designed to tap behaviors related to all five factors of the Five Factor Model of personality. That linkage allows you to look for evidence of how your personality may be getting expressed in your leadership.

What does the 4D360© assess?

In our Four Dimensional Leadership Model, we break leadership into four broad sets of skills and attributes that define the four dimensions of the model:
  • Implementational Leadership comprises skills needed to lead or influence others in the implementation of plans and tasks. Consequently, technical expertise and detailed knowledge of work procedures are essential.
  • Personal Leadership describes the ability to understand and manage one’s own personality so that personal ego does not get in the way of sound business practice. In particular, it involves management of stress and emotional reactions in problem situations. There is a strong emphasis on ethics and integrity.
  • Interpersonal Leadership is defined as influencing others through skills such as communicating, giving feedback, facilitating discussions, coaching and mentoring.
  • Directional Leadership comprises the skills needed to think and act strategically, understand and manage complex systems, and other skills related to setting direction for the organization.

How is the 4D360© used?

4D360© can be used in a number of ways:
  • Individual assessment, coaching and planning.
  • 4D360© helps individuals understand how others perceive their strengths and development needs in 17 critical management skills and provides a solid base for development. This assessment is also a valuable tool in helping those new to a management role identify the skills they will need to succeed as they advance their management career.
  • As part of an existing management initiative.
  • Because the 4D360© is on line, quick to complete and easy to understand, it can easily be incorporated into an existing, in-house development initiative.
  • As the cornerstone of a customized leadership development workshop, developed collaboratively by the principals at CCG with your organization to meet the unique developmental needs and values of your organization.
